Fun at The Science Roadshow!!!

The senior syndicate had a blast on Monday 3rd August when we visited Matua School and experienced the Fonterra Science Roadshow. What a fabulous time we had, all the exhibits were hands on and we saw two shows teaching us new things about Earth and our atmosphere as well as the amazing ability of sound.

Term 3

Hello to Students in Room ten and to your families

To save paper, I have decided to put the class 'Connection' on the Blog Site.

This Term we will be:

Speech writing
Creating Calendar Art
Exploring Narrative texts
Investigating Measurement and Geometry
Experiencing Winter Sport Skill Building
Taking part in Creative Thinking and Problem Solving 'Think Tanks'
Improving on our knowledge and understanding of Maori Language in the home and in the classroom
as well as being Introduced to several well known New Zealand Artists and having a go at similar techniques

along with many other learning fabulous experiences and school wide activities.

Homework

Smartkiddies.com will be available again for those students who would like to do extra to keep up their speed and number knowledge. I will set new tasks at the beginning of every week.

For those students who can not get access to a computer, I will set out a timetable in class for them to access the site. I will also be giving out the math homework sheets as this has proven to help students with their overall knowledge of basic math ideas. Homework will be given out on a Monday and marked on a Friday.

Extra homework such as gathering newspaper articles, topic research and gathering of resources for special projects may also be requested of the students.

COLDS AND FLU

Thanks to the families who have donated tissues to the class. If your child is unwell please keep them home. Bugs are spreading extremely quickly now we are back at school and any extra precautions we can take to avoid cross infection help considerably.

GOAL REVIEWS WEEK 4
The class will be reviewing existing and setting new goals for the rest of the year, please look out for the Goal review Sheets and add your comments. I look forward to discussing this important part of your child's final year at TPS.

Thanks for your continued support. Please feel free to come in and discuss any concerns or questions you may have.

What's New?

Hi everyone
I have added some cool games, brain teasers and a safe search engine to the right hand side of the Blog page. Use them, let me know what you think and if you find anything interesting on the world wide web you would like to share, let me know!!!

WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING IN ROOM 10?

The focus so for this term has been discovering energy through science immersion activities and discussing how to create'the classroom I'd like'. The students will now decide the focus for the next step in their Inquiry Learning. Our Young Leaders also attended the Leaders Day in Rotorua where they got to hear from some of our countries leaders in music (Russell Harrison), sport (Barbara Kendall), community fundraising (Kerri Tilby) and long serving policeman and youth aid worker Nick Tuitasi. Inspiring for both teachers and students.

TOTARA SPRINGS 2009

THANK YOU

A big THANK YOU to all of the parents who took time out of their busy life to come and join the fun at camp. Without all of your hard work and enthusiasm, the camp would not have been as successful. We appreciate all of your creativeness, expertise and never ending energy levels!

I have uploaded a movie showing just a few of the many fabulous photos taken on camp. They were taken by Pete Johnson and he has included several breathtaking views of Totara Springs from the window of his plane.

I hope you enjoy the show!

Week 8 Term 1

Hi guys

I can't believe we are nearly to the end of the term already. The excitement is building as we are now into preparation for camp. I am really looking forward to spending quality outdoors time with you all. I have created a class 'Wiki Space' to record our personal goals for camp. Just go down to the great links to share part on the right hand side of our blog page and click on the link. It will take you to our Wiki Space, select edit this page at the top and you just have to add a goal under mine and then remember to save your entry.

I will be posting onto the Wiki Space a slide show of camp photos when we return so keep a look out.

Cheers
Mrs D.

BIKE SAFETY WEEK
Thanks to Iris, Vanessa and Lucy for teaching us 'defensive cycling'. Did you know that more children have serious accidents while cycling on the footpath than those who cycle on the roads? Road cyclists are protected by the same road rules that apply to cars. Talk to your child about what they have learnt during this valuable teaching and learning experience.

WELCOME

Hey!!! Welcome to Room 10's official Blog site. Be sure to check in regularly and see what has been going on in the class (and outside!). Feel free to add a comment, tell us about a fab website or share a bit of news. I will be selecting 'BLOGMEISTERS' from the class to take care of updating the site.

Keep Blogging!!!!!
